Poster Illustration
Illustration & Typography
The initial concept for the poster was to illustrate a young man facing a dark and dangerous cave and being met by wolves and other creatures. Yet, he would not fear what lies in front of him, since what is beyond these dangers awaits for him something rewarding. The only light that guides him comes from the torch in his hand and this light would illuminate the Latin phrase on the ground, audentes fortuna iuvat which translates to fortune favors the brave.
The idea of the wolf coming in from the side was withdrawn because it was distracting the viewer’s attention from the type and the young man.
Outcome
The illustration has a knight in the midst of danger with only two options: turn around and return from where he came from or face what dangers lie within the cave. Being a knight, he readies himself to continue his path.
The scene consists of dark dangerous surroundings. There is no sense of life other than the knight and the mysterious eyes within the cave. The phrase, trees, and shadows are placed in perspective to guide the viewer to the knight and the eyes.
